Rapinoe returned to United States in 2011 after playing a few games in the Sydney Football Club FC, the Australian W-League. The next time she played was with Seattle Washington Sounders Women. Seattle Washington Sounders Women now known as the Sound FC. Rapinoe spent the 2013 soccer season in France. She was a member of Seattle Reign FC, now OL Reign in the National Women's Soccer League NWSL which was created following the breakup of WPS. Rapinoe was soon one of the top players for her team, eventually becoming the captain.
